The Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3) is now accepting applications for the fourth cohort of the VALIDATE Accelerator, launching fall 2026.
The VALIDATE Accelerator is an interdisciplinary commercialization program that helps graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and research teams transform promising ideas into technologies with real-world impact. Through customer discovery, mentorship, and hands-on commercialization support, participants gain the tools to move innovations from the lab to the streets.
Since its launch, the VALIDATE Accelerator has supported 26 alumni, helped launch 3 startups, and facilitated 5+ pilot deployments, including Cyrus and Arachna Networks.

Community-Inspired Challenge Tracks
This year’s accelerator invites applicants to develop innovative solutions within one of three challenge tracks:
- Resilient & Responsive Cities
- AI for Safer Streets
- Community-Driven Innovation
These tracks reflect not only CS3’s research priorities, but also the voices of the stakeholders we partner with. On July 29, CS3 convened a Community Partners in Residence workshop, bringing together community members, students, researchers, faculty, and government partners to discuss emerging urban challenges and opportunities. Building on the Center’s ongoing co-design process, participants reflected on progress made over the past year and helped identify the priorities for this year’s accelerator.
Rather than beginning with a specific technology, this year’s challenge tracks begin with the problems our communities want to solve. We encourage applicants from across disciplines (including engineering, urban planning, business, design, policy, and the social sciences) to bring their perspectives and develop innovative solutions.
