CS3’s Engineering Workforce Development (EWD) initiative envisions a workforce that fosters livable, safe, and inclusive communities through high-precision streetscape understanding. Guided by principles of public benefit, community involvement, and social responsibility, it sets goals to create an interdisciplinary and convergent workforce, ensure diversity and inclusivity, and engage with communities to build trust in technology.
Objectives
Educate
Develop a diverse smart streetscapes workforce by integrating convergent research with educational activities and assets.
Engage
Broaden program participation through community engagement.
Create Opportunities
Create opportunities for collaborative problem-solving across disciplines.
K-12 STEM educators work closely with CS3 researchers from Columbia University and Lehman College, gaining firsthand experience in cutting-edge projects related to smart streetscapes and urban technology.
High school students from Harlem, the surrounding NYC area, and Florida can participate in interdisciplinary research focused on urban technology and trust.
Undergraduate students can collaborate on cutting-edge research focused on smart streetscape technology, and have the opportunity to be mentored by faculty, researchers, and STEM professionals from academia and industry.
The Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3) Student Leadership Council (SLC) serves as a liaison between the student community and the center administration, facilitating communication on center research, organization, and function.
