SLC Speaks on Women’s History Month 2024

Members of the Center for Smart Streetscapes Student Leadership Council (SLC) weighed in on Women’s History Month 2024, sharing what this month means to them and the women in STEM they see as role models.

Sonia Moshfeghi, Education & Outreach Liaison

Sevin Mohammadi, Columbia University Representative

Joseph Fioresi, University of Central Florida Representative

“Highlighting women in STEM and celebrating Women’s History Month are essential for challenging stereotypes, encouraging diversity, and ensuring progress. I see it as a way of honoring past achievements while inspiring future generations to contribute to fields where women have historically been underrepresented. I personally look up to Dr. Fei-Fei Li for her pioneering work in computer vision and her dedication to promoting diversity in our field. She serves as a modern example of female leadership and innovation.”

Navid Salami Pargoo, Education & Outreach Liaison

“Women in STEM are vital architects helping to construct the future with their brilliance and diverse perspectives. They are smashing glass ceilings, defying stereotypes, and paving the path for generations to follow. Women’s History Month puts a spotlight on these pioneers, celebrating their hard-won triumphs over adversity. It’s a reminder that true innovation can only flourish in an environment that embraces equity and inclusion.”
