Our 2023 My Streetscape Summer Research Institute participants have exciting updates on their plans, and insightful reflections on the CS3 experience.
She shared a standout memory from CS3?, her upcoming plans?, and research areas of interest?:
“One memory from CS3 that has remained close to me was definitely the ethnographic analysis day when we went out as a group to collect data based on our observations of people and the streets themselves. We were led by Madi Whitman and she taught us the methods to take and what to think about when doing ethnographic research. As a group, we wanted to focus on the big question of privacy. What’s public and what’s private? What are people doing in this certain area? Where is technology taking place? How are people interacting with this technology? Asking ourselves these questions while observing the space outdoors was an interesting experience that I never would’ve thought would be so informative and useful.
“This upcoming fall, I will be a biomedical engineering major at Syracuse University. I will take part in the ESTEEMED LEADERS Program at Syracuse which will prepare me academically, provide me with research experiences and mentors, and advise me for biomedical engineering. I will also be working with a small group of 4 other students to conduct research together (in different projects perhaps) and present our findings. Over the summer, I will do Syracuse’s six-week summer bridge program which consists of getting acclimated to college life, beginning research projects, and preparing myself as an incoming freshman.
”I feel that biomedical engineering has many broad facets that are very interdisciplinary. I still have to explore the field through my summer program where I will visit labs and talk to research facilitators. If I had to choose, I would say I am most interested in medical device design and development, specifically in biomedical optics and vision sciences.”
