Looking back on 2023 My Streetscape Summer Research Institute: Where is Joel Lazcano now?

Our 2023 My Streetscape Summer Research Institute participants have exciting updates on their plans, and insightful reflections on the CS3 experience.

In September 2023, Joel Lazcano presented his summer research during a public photovoice exhibit at The Forum in Harlem.

Joel Lazcano shared a lesson from CS3, his upcoming plans, and research areas of interest:

“A lesson I learned at CS3 is that it’s good to get out of your comfort zone. At first, CS3 was a bit of a nerve-racking experience, but by the end of the summer I was very glad that I had that experience.

”This summer I will be working at REACH, a summer camp for academically gifted middle school boys from underserved communities. The same camp I went to in middle school!

”I am very interested in machine learning and AI, as everyone is these days. Also, I will be attending Columbia University where I will be studying engineering — what type of engineering, I am not entirely sure of yet.”
